In the pilot episode of A Threat, Emiliano Styles converses with his father James Moss. James Moss is an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, retired robbery, homicide, and organized crime detective from the Columbus, Ohio police department. He is a proud husband, father of 4, with 10 grandchildren. Mr. Moss gives accounts of his first encounters with racism as a child, the KKK, the importance of a strong, protective father in his household, and recounts how vital brotherhood was in his upbringing. He talks about his early run ins with police, racism in the army, and how he became an activist on the Columbus police department. He also gives accounts of countless death threats on him and his family, having his phones tapped, and how he survived attempts on his life. James Moss gives details of how he spearheaded unprecedented federal investigations and federal lawsuits against the Columbus Ohio Police Department charging them with police misconduct, police brutality, excessive force, and discriminatory practices against Blacks and women. Mr. Moss provides several gems and wisdom about what it means to stand up for yourself at all costs.
